Below are a few tips to ensure that you are protected:

  • Test fire alarms at least once a month – simply press the test button
  • Every 10 years – replace all smoke alarms (or if the test above does not work)
  • Install interconnected smoke alarms- so that when one sounds, they all sound.
  • When an alarm sounds – get out and stay out.  Do what you can to alert small children or the elderly whom often sleep through even the loudest fire alarms.
  • Do not try to re-enter the building.
  • Call the fire department from a cell phone or neighbor’s phone – Even if your central fire alarm is connected to the fire department’s central alarm station, you should still follow this step.
